Board Seeks Volunteers for 2007-2008 School Year

The PTA Board is responsible for helping parents match their interests and abilities with the available volunteer positions for the school year. If you are interested in finding out more about being a board member, chairing a committee, running an event, or assisting with any committee or event, please contact a board member or nominating committee member. Board members are elected at the April General PTA Meeting, but volunteers can join the team at any time!.

Please download a Volunteer Opportunities Form to volunteer.

Making it Easier for YOU to Volunteer

The Crismon PTA strongly believes in the power of parents and community members to make a difference at Crismon Elementary. If something is keeping you from volunteering, let a board member know and we'll see what we can do to help. Here are a few programs that we hope make it easier for you to volunteer.

Volunteer Badges
Volunteer/visitor badges are available in the Crismon office. Wearing a badge lets teachers, staff and other parents know you are a volunteer. It also lets the children know you are not a stranger. If you plan to volunteer regularly, make a volunteer badge to be stored on the Volunteer Board in the office. This will save you time as you enter the school since you will no longer need to fill out a visitor sticker. It will also be easier for others to identify you as a regular volunteer.

Off-hours Volunteering
For the many parents (moms AND dads) who work during the school day, there are many opportunities to volunteer during whatever spare time you have. The donations committee needs volunteers to contact local businesses. The web team needs editors. Many school and PTA events happen in the evenings or on the weekends, and volunteer help is needed to plan and run these events. If you are interested in volunteering, but can't help during the school day, please contact a board member for more information about these and other volunteer opportunities.

Volunteer Guidelines

General volunteer guidelines have been set up that all volunteers are requested to follow:

Registration Cards
Every volunteer must complete a volunteer registration/emergency card before he or she starts volunteering. Pick this form up and return it to the office once completed.

Check-in and Check-out
For the safety and security of Crismon students, volunteers and visitors are required to check in at the office when they enter the campus. Volunteers are asked to sign in the Volunteer Book. It is located on the small table by the front entrance to the office; the Visitor sign-in book is located on the counter in the office. Signing in is very important, especially if you have more than one child at the school and you need to be reached in case of an emergency. Please also remember to sign out before you leave the campus.

Supervision of Volunteers
All volunteers work under the direct supervision of the professional staff and only with those teachers or classrooms or PTA functions who have requested the services of a volunteer. Since it is the district that is responsible for the education of our children, the teacher, administrator, or district volunteer coordinator may dismiss any volunteer whose actions are not in the best interest of the school or students. Ask the teacher about use of telephones, eating, smoking, fire drills and emergency procedures.

Discipline
Volunteers may NOT discipline a student. Please make the teacher or administrative staff aware of any discipline problems that may arise.

Dismissal of Students
Volunteers may not dismiss a student from school. Under no circumstances may a volunteer take a student off campus, drive or walk students to their homes, or contact students outside school hours.

Restrooms
Staff restrooms are available for volunteers. Please do not use student restrooms.

Young Children at School -
Unless you have made previous arrangements with Crismon's principal, please leave younger children at home. Younger children are not allowed in the copy area. We look forward to having your individual attention.

Staying for Lunch
Parents are welcome to stay for lunch with their child. If purchasing a lunch at the cafeteria, please let the cafeteria know in order to be added to the lunch counts. Notices of your child's lunch time will be sent home with your child at the beginning of the year. They may change slightly during the year but notice will be given prior to any changes.

Health
If you are scheduled to volunteer at school or at a Crismon PTA event and you are not feeling well, please do not try to keep up with your volunteer duties. Call call the school or the PTA event coordinator as soon as possible. If it is before school, you may leave a message on the teacher's voice mail.

Office and School Hours
The office is open from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Students should not arrive at school before 8:05 and should leave as soon as dismissed. Student hours are:

• 8:25 to 2:55 Grades 1-3
• 8:25 to 3:00 Grades 4-6
• 8:25 to 11:10 AM Kindergarten
• 12:10 to 2:55 PM Kindergarten
